Should You Get Married in Jamaica?

Carly Faghy • August 24, 2026

You only get married once, as the saying goes, right? So if you're planning a wedding, the setting, the backdrop, the day – you want it to be pretty special. And if you're considering a destination wedding, well, you might as well make it somewhere you'll never forget.

For our Head of Operations, Sarah, that place was Jamaica.

Back in 2009 – what seems like a millennium ago now – Sarah and her brand-new husband spent two weeks at Sunset at the Palms in Negril for their wedding and honeymoon.

And here's the fun bit: they didn't actually choose Jamaica first and then go looking for a hotel. They chose the hotel first. Strange concept, we know. But Sarah wanted somewhere different. Somewhere they hadn't stayed before. Somewhere that felt a little more special than simply booking a block of rooms and turning up.

And Sarah has worked in travel for most of her life, so when it comes to destinations, believe us, she's been to a few. But the hotel and the setting were key for them.

And that hotel led them to Jamaica.

Barefoot, on the beach, in Jamaica

There was no big, formal walk down a church aisle for Sarah. Instead, she walked barefoot along the beach, with her wedding party doing the same. The team at the resort had created a coconut-lined walkway for her to walk down, while her wedding coordinator scattered flower petals as she made her way to the ceremony.

She walked down the aisle to 'Over the Rainbow' by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, before the whole wedding party walked back up the beach to Bob Marley's 'One Love'. Tell us a more Jamaican soundtrack. Go on, we dare you.

The best part of the wedding – well, other than marrying the love of her life, of course. You're welcome, Sarah, as that little detail was missing from our interview! But seriously, Sarah says the whole thing was completely stress-free. And with wedding planning now being a whole industry, and many a bridezilla created along the way, that sounds pretty much like the dream to us.

How easy is it to get married in Jamaica?

If you're considering a destination wedding, there's probably one question sitting at the back of your mind: “But how on earth do you organise a wedding from another country?” For Sarah, it was surprisingly simple. The resort's wedding coordinator took care of everything, from arranging her hair appointment to organising the flowers and setting up the ceremony. In fact, Sarah says it took around an hour to organise everything.

That's it. An hour.

When you think about how long some couples spend choosing flowers, chasing suppliers and trying to coordinate different parts of their wedding at home, that's quite a contrast. And it meant that when the actual day arrived, there was nothing left to worry about.

Just enjoy it.

A wedding without the wedding-day stress After the ceremony, Sarah and her guests had a private dining experience, with the wedding coordinator decorating the space for them. It wasn't about putting on some huge, elaborate production. It was personal, relaxed and, most importantly, stress-free.

And isn't that what you want?

You've already made the big decision to get married. You don't want to spend the day wondering whether the flowers have arrived or whether the table decorations look right. You want to actually remember the day.

Thinking about a Jamaican wedding or honeymoon?

Whether you're looking for an adults-only resort for two, somewhere to bring the whole family or a beautiful beach ceremony followed by two weeks of doing absolutely nothing, explore our Jamaica holidays and let us help you find the right place.

Why Jamaica works so well for a wedding

After hearing Sarah's story, it's pretty easy to see why Jamaica has become such a popular destination for weddings and honeymoons. The island is practically made for it. We're talking warm Caribbean evenings, palm trees, beautiful beaches, turquoise water and sunsets that don't need a filter. And the resorts are set up for it too. There are properties across Jamaica offering dedicated wedding planners and wedding packages, so much of the organisation can be taken care of for you.

You can get married barefoot on the beach, in a tropical garden or somewhere overlooking the sea. And then there's the fact that your wedding and your holiday can all happen in the same place. Which brings us nicely to...

The resort becomes part of the experience. This is probably one of the biggest reasons we love the idea of a resort wedding. Your wedding doesn't have to be just one day. If your friends and family are travelling all the way to Jamaica with you, why not make the whole trip part of the celebration? Arrive. Settle in. Have a few drinks together. Get married. Celebrate. Then carry on enjoying the island. There are lively resorts where everyone can meet up for dinner and drinks, quieter adults-only properties if you want something more intimate, and plenty of all-inclusive options where you don't have to spend your holiday worrying about who's paying for what.

Food? Sorted.

Drinks? Sorted.

Beach? Right there.

It's hard to argue with that.

And when the wedding is over... This is where Jamaica really earns its place as a honeymoon destination.

Jamaica Honeymoons

After months – or, more realistically in this climate, years – of wedding planning, you probably want your honeymoon to just relax, right? One of the best things about getting married in Jamaica is that you don't necessarily have to move on once the wedding is over.

Your honeymoon has already started. No packing. No airport transfer the next morning. No checking into another hotel.

Just more Jamaica.

More beach.

More sunshine.

And most importantly, more rum punch.

Your honeymoon can be exactly what you want it to be. Want to sped your entire wek not moving from that sun lounger? Why not!  Want something more adventurous well, there's plenty to see. In Negril, you've got the famous Seven Mile Beach, laid-back beach bars and those spectacular sunsets. Then there are the cliffs, where you can spend an evening at Rick's Cafe, watching the sun go down and the more adventurous visitors jumping into the Caribbean below.

Sunset at the Palms

Sarah stayed at Sunset at the Palms in Negril, an adults-only all-inclusive resort surrounded by tropical gardens. And it's not your typical huge resort. The rooms are set among the trees in a kind of tropical treehouse style, giving the property a more intimate feel. There's a private beach club across the road, restaurants, bars, pools and plenty of space to simply switch off.

It's easy to see why it appealed to Sarah and her husband when they were looking for somewhere they'd never stayed before. And for couples getting married there today, the resort offers wedding options including ceremonies in the tropical gardens and celebrations on the beach, with a wedding coordinator helping with the details.

Of course, a lot has changed since Sarah's trip in 2009 – but the reason she chose the resort in the first place still feels pretty relevant.

FAQs

  • Is Jamaica a good place to get married?

Yes – Jamaica is a popular choice for destination weddings, particularly if you want the wedding and honeymoon to happen in the same place. There are plenty of resorts offering wedding packages and coordinators, so you can have the ceremony, celebrations and your holiday all in one place.

  • How much does it cost to get married in Jamaica?

The cost of a Jamaican wedding can vary quite a lot depending on the resort, the number of guests and how much you want to include. Many all-inclusive resorts offer wedding packages, which can make budgeting a little easier as things such as the ceremony, flowers and food can be bundled together.

  • Do Jamaican resorts organise weddings?

Many resorts in Jamaica offer wedding planning services, including help with the ceremony, flowers, hair and beauty appointments, decorations, photography and dining. This can take a lot of the pressure off organising a wedding from overseas – as Sarah found when she got married at Sunset at the Palms.

  • What is the best part of Jamaica to get married in?

It really depends on the type of wedding you're looking for. Negril is known for its beautiful beaches and spectacular sunsets, Montego Bay has a huge choice of resorts and is convenient for the airport, while Ocho Rios is a good option if you want to combine your wedding with plenty of sightseeing and excursions.

  • Is Jamaica good for a honeymoon?

Definitely. Jamaica is a great option if your idea of a honeymoon involves beautiful beaches, warm weather, good food, plenty of cocktails and the option to do as much – or as little – as you like. You can spend the whole week relaxing at your resort or get out and explore waterfalls, beaches, mountains and local attractions.

  • Can you get married on the beach in Jamaica?

Yes. Beach weddings are one of the most popular options in Jamaica, and many resorts offer ceremonies directly on the beach. Just imagine walking barefoot down the aisle with the Caribbean Sea behind you – Sarah did exactly that back in 2009.

Let’s be honest, if you’re writing a blog about beaches in Barbados, you’re not going to struggle for options. There are more than 80 beaches across the island , and the good news is that Barbados’ beaches are public. So whether you’re staying at a luxury resort or a small guesthouse, you can enjoy the coastline. The thing is, not every beach is the same. Some are calm and made for swimming, some are better for watersports, and others are more about finding a rum punch, sitting back and watching the world go by. So rather than give you a huge list of every beach on the island, here are a few of our favourites depending on what you’re actually looking for.

When you think of the Caribbean, it's easy to picture powder-soft white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water and a cocktail in hand. And while all of that definitely exists, every Caribbean island has its own personality. One island packed to the brim with personality is St Lucia . It's one of the greener, more dramatic islands in the Caribbean, where lush rainforest meets beautiful beaches and towering volcanic peaks rise straight out of the sea. With around 180,000 people calling the island home, St Lucia manages to feel both welcoming and wonderfully unspoilt. If you're wondering what makes it so special, here are five reasons we keep recommending it.

We’re back with another USA blog as part of our FIFA World Cup 26 series. This week, while Las Vegas isn’t actually hosting any matches, we’re seeing plenty of fans adding it into their US trips — and it’s easy to see why. Las Vegas is one of those destinations that doesn’t really need an introduction, but we’ll give it one anyway. This is the city where an Eiffel Tower stands next to a pyramid. Where breakfast at 2pm is completely normal. Where you can watch world-class shows, take a gondola ride through Venice, stand beneath dancing fountains, and try your luck in a casino… all without leaving the Strip. It's loud. It's over the top. It's completely bonkers. And that's exactly why people love it. First things first, let’s get the stereotype out of the way. Yes, Las Vegas is known for hen dos, stag parties and group weekend getaways. But Vegas isn’t selective — it really does have something for everyone. Whether you’re planning the ultimate hen party, a family trip, a couples getaway, or even a solo adventure, Las Vegas works in more ways than people expect. So with that in mind, here are our must-do experiences for your first visit.

Ready for your latest USA instalment as part of our FIFA World Cup 26 series? This week we’re heading to one of the most iconic cities in the world as England prepare to take on Panama on 27th June. Of course, we’re talking about New York City. New York doesn’t really need an introduction. Even if you’ve never been, you already know it — you’ve seen it in films, on TV, in adverts, and probably scrolling Instagram at 2am when you start planning trips you haven’t actually booked yet. Times Square, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, Broadway, yellow taxis everywhere… it’s one of those cities that feels familiar before you even arrive. But here’s the question we get asked all the time as travel agents: "When is the best time to visit New York?" And honestly? It's a difficult one to answer. Summer in New York is absolutely unreal. Rooftop bars packed, outdoor events everywhere, Central Park in full swing, street performers, long evenings where you lose track of time just wandering around. But then winter rolls in… And suddenly New York turns into something else entirely. It’s the New York you've seen in the films. Christmas lights everywhere. Ice skating in Central Park. Markets in Bryant Park. Fifth Avenue looking like a film set. It’s very “Home Alone 2 energy” if we’re being honest. So rather than picking a winner, we've decided to do something a little different. We've put together two perfect three-day itineraries – one for a summer visit and one for a winter city break. Same New York. Completely different vibe.

If you’ve been to Constantinou Bros Asimina Suites Hotel before, you’ll already know how special it is. And if it’s been on your list for a while, now might be the perfect time to go. The hotel officially reopened on 2nd May 2026 after a six-month refurbishment, and one of our team (Carly from head office) was lucky enough to spend a week there straight after reopening to see what’s changed. It’s always really important that our agents know hotels inside and out, so that you can trust they know what they are talking about when they make recommendations for your holiday.

We're back with another USA blog ahead of England playing Ghana on 23rd June during FIFA World Cup 26. This time we're heading over to one of America's most historic cities... … … Boston. (Did you get the right answer?).

We’re back with another USA blog ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, and this time we’re diving into the legend that is Dallas. Dallas is known for iconic Texas BBQ, high-end shopping, cowboy culture, and the historic assassination site of John F. Kennedy. But most importantly… SPORTS. And, with England taking on Croatia on the 17th June, there’s no better time to talk about one of America’s true sports cities.
