When is the Best Time to See the Northern Lights?

To see the lights, you need three things: Darkness, clear skies, and solar activity .

The Northern Lights season runs from late September to late March.

September & October: Often milder and great for seeing the lights reflected in water before the lakes freeze.

November to February: The "Big Dark." This gives you the maximum number of hours for Aurora hunting.

March: Statistically great for sightings around the Spring Equinox.

Ok, we need to start with the big one, and South Africa is definitely that. Imagine canvassing through Kruger National Park where the Big Five are literally your neighbours!

Top Tip For Safari Holidays:

Patience is a virtue. We’ve all watched the David Attenborough documentaries, but remember those cameramen sit there for days to get that one shot. Safaris are all about the wait. But looking out at the bush and spotting prey from a distance is one of the most "out of body" experiences you’ll ever have.

Niagara Falls is a total classic for a reason. It’s big, it’s loud, and honestly, it makes you feel tiny in the best way possible.

Set the alarm. No one wants an early start on holiday, but if you want to see Lake Louise without a thousand other people in your shot, you’ve got to be there at sunrise. Plus, that’s when you’re most likely to spot a bear or some elk by the roadside.

NOLA is just... cool. There’s no other way to put it. You’ve got live music on every corner, incredible food, and a bit of a spooky, haunted history that gives the city so much character.

If you want a city break with actual soul, this is your spot. Sarah, our Operations Manager, is determined that she will get to New Orleans for Halloween… and we suppose, what better time to explore this city?

Head to Frenchmen Street for the proper local jazz, it’s got the vibe, it’s got the character and it feels like you have stepped away from the tourist traps on Bourbon Street. Though, we would still be sneaking a peak at what Bourbon Street had to offer.

6. Vietnam

Ok, we’ve given you nature, we’ve given you cities, but hands up if you dream of emerald waters and bustling night markets like our Sales Manager Helen? If so, then you are dreaming about South East Asia.

Vietnam is chaotic, busy, and totally brilliant. One minute you’re navigating the scooter-filled streets of Hanoi, the next you’re kayaking through the limestone pillars of Ha Long Bay. It’s cheap, it’s stunning, and the street food is a solid 10/10.

Melbourne is the heart of this region, and it’s a city that lives and breathes art, sport, and amazing coffee. Victoria is the state of the Great Ocean Road, a road trip that sweeps past coastal routes, dramatic cliffs, and waterfalls that look like they belong on a postcard.

Top tip— continue past the Great Ocean Road to make a stop in Mount Gambier (in South Australia) and marvel at the Umpherston Sinkhole believe us, this is a detour well worth it.

Our Insider Tip: The Great Ocean Road has to be on your to do list, but also make time for Melbourne’s hidden laneways, world-class dining, and a visit to the charming wine regions.

Hidden Gem: Wilsons Promontory (Wilsons Prom). Campers and hikers will go mad for this. Think stunning scenery, mountains next to the beach, and a paradise for birdwatching.

Best Time to Visit: November – March (Summer) This state is known as the state of 4 seasons in one day. Summer is your best bet to catch as many rays as possible.

Western Australia: The Wild Wild West

Ready to go off-grid and see something truly unique? It would be hard to explain just how much WA has to offer, but we’ll give it a go.

Western Australia is a painter’s muse. You have burnt orange landscapes meeting turquoise waters in Broome, dusty yellow limestone foundations as far as the eye can see in the Pinnacles Desert, and the endless greenery in the pine forests of Margaret River. You also have Pink Lakes that look like you’ve added an Instagram filter across the south of this state.

The Vibe: Untouched beaches, rugged outback, and a feeling of immense scale.

Our Insider Tip: Swim with whale sharks (truly unforgettable!), marvel at the pink lakes, and discover the premium wineries near Perth. It’s wonderfully different and offers spectacular nature.

Hidden Gem: Make a stop in Coral Bay, on the Ningaloo reef and walk up the beach a little to spot baby sharks call their nursery—you can even get in the water with them (they’re not dangerous yet!). The spot is called Bill’s Bay, but let’s keep this secret place a secret a little longer.

Best Time to Visit: Perth and the south are lovely, and it’s a perfect time for swimming with whale sharks on the Ningaloo Reef.

South Australia: Wine, Wildlife, and Wide-Open Spaces

South Australia is sophisticated, relaxed, and a haven for wine lovers and animal enthusiasts. You have winery after winery, and they are so easy to get to.

South Australia is also famous for driving along the beach, spotting Koalas in their natural habitat and the must visit Kangaroo Island.

The Vibe: World-class wineries and abundant, protected wildlife.

A small island with a huge personality! Tasmania is a paradise for nature lovers, hikers, and those just brave enough to conquer Cradle Mountain. One of our agents did this and quote, "it’s not for the faint-hearted."

Look out for the rock with the fossil of the now-extinct Tasmanian tiger in Kakadu National Park, see crocs in their natural habitat, and rock art full of long-standing Indigenous stories. This is also the territory of the central heart of Australia— Uluru . Now, when we say it glows at sunset, this is not a metaphor, trust us, you have to see it to believe it. Planning a Disneyland Paris Trip to Davy Crockett Ranch Self Driving from the UK

This self-d rive journey combines the fun of a road trip with the excitement of visiting one of the world’s most famous theme parks, Disneyland Paris! We have chosen to go in November so it combines with my little girls 5th birthday with the added bonus of the Christmas festivities on at the same time.

Best Times to Visit:

· Off-Peak Seasons: If possible, try to plan your trip during off-peak seasons to avoid huge crowds. Mid-January to March, and September to early November are ideal times to visit.

· Weekdays vs. Weekends: Weekdays are typically less crowded, so plan your visit from Monday to Thursday for a smoother experience.

· Special Events: Disneyland Paris has year-round events, but be aware that school holidays (especially summer, Christmas, and Easter) tend to be busy, so if you visit during these times, expect larger crowds.

Ferry from Dover to Calais

To get from the UK to Disneyland Paris, the most common route is to take a ferry from the UK to France. The ferry crossing from Dover (UK) to Calais (France) is the most popular option as it tends to be the cheapest and takes approximately 90 minutes. It’s a great opportunity for the little ones to stretch their legs and have a change of scenery.

If the budget will allow you could opt for the Eurotunnel (Le Shuttle) which only takes 35 minutes from Folkestone.

4. Unique Theming and Activities The Davy Crockett Ranch experience is steeped in Americana and frontier history. Your cabin will give you a taste of rustic charm, with wood paneling and log-style furnishings. The ranch also offers outdoor activities like cycling, archery, and nature walks, giving you a chance to connect with nature and experience something different than the usual park attractions.

5. Pet-Friendly Options For those traveling with pets, Davy Crockett Ranch is a great option as it offers pet-friendly cabins, allowing your furry friends to join in on the adventure.

These meals fill up quickly, so make sure to reserve your spot in advance.

· Table Service Restaurants: Disneyland Paris has plenty of fantastic table-service restaurants, including the French-inspired Bistrot Chez Rémy, the medieval-themed Auberge de Cendrillon, and the pirate-themed Captain Jack’s. It’s always a good idea to book a reservation for these popular spots to avoid long wait times.

· Buffet Restaurants: For an all-you-can-eat experience, book a spot at one of the buffet restaurants like The Lucky Nugget Saloon or Plaza Gardens Restaurant.

Royal Princess Makeover (For Little Royals)

At Disneyland Paris, you can treat your little one to a Royal Princess Makeover at Maquillage Boutique. Children can get glammed up with their favourite princess look, including hair styling, face painting, and accessories. Some even include a photoshoot which my two little girls would love!

A fantastic family-friendly resort with amazing service, great food, and beautiful surroundings – we can’t wait to go back!

Evenings Full of Entertainment

Every night kicked off with the mini disco for the kids, which was honestly one of the highlights of the trip for our little one. It was followed by evening shows, including live singers, magicians, and something new each night. It was great to have something fun to look forward to after dinner without needing to leave the hotel.

A Morning Walk to Kolymbia & Beach Time

One morning, we decided to get out and explore a bit more, so we took a lovely 25–30 minute walk into Kolymbia. It was such a nice stroll, and once we arrived, we spent some time relaxing on the beach—peaceful, sunny, and a great change of pace. Afterward, we wandered through some of the local shops and beachfront restaurants for a snack and a browse.

If walking isn’t for you, there’s a bus stop right outside the hotel, and you’ll also find a few handy shops and a nearby restaurant just a short walk away.

Little Extras That Make a Big Difference

There are so many thoughtful extras at the hotel, like an on-site supermarket, a mini arcade, and an indoor soft play area for little ones—great for those in-between moments or when the sun gets a bit too strong.

Hi everyone! It’s Sarah here, and I’ve just returned from the most amazing family trip to Rhodes, staying at the beautiful Atlantica Aegean Blue Hotel in Kolymbia. We booked a 4-night All-Inclusive stay, and honestly, it was just what we needed. If you’re a family looking for a relaxed, fun, and totally stress-free escape—this hotel has it all.

First Impressions & A Warm Welcome

From the moment we arrived, we felt completely taken care of. The welcome at reception was lovely, and the check-in process was smooth and quick. The team even encouraged us to head into the restaurant before it closed while they got our room ready—such a thoughtful touch after a long day of travel!

Poolside Bliss & Waterpark Fun

One of the absolute highlights of our stay was the pool and water areas. The main pool is full of life and laughter—inflatables welcome, which our little one loved! There’s also a more serene ocean-facing pool that’s geared more towards adults (kids are welcome too, but must be supervised), which made for some nice quiet moments.

And of course, we spent loads of time at the on-site waterpark, which is open from 10am–12:30pm and 1:30pm–4pm. There’s a one-hour break in the middle, which is actually great for a bit of downtime. The splash zone is brilliant for younger kids, and the nearby kids’ club, football courts, and tennis courts are easily accessible throughout the day.

Our Room: Spacious, Stylish & Family-Ready

We stayed in a Standard Sea View Room, and it was absolutely perfect for our little family of three. The room was bright, clean, and modern with a huge king-size bed, a single bed for our little one, TV, Nespresso coffee machine, fridge, and a super sleek shower-only bathroom.

We had a gorgeous view of the pool and entertainment area from our balcony—perfect for enjoying a quiet coffee in the morning or watching the sunset in the evening. Plus, we were just a short walk from reception and the bar area, which made everything feel so convenient.

All-Inclusive Delights ��

The food? Absolutely brilliant!

Lunchtimes were an absolute win thanks to the snack bar by the pool—quick, delicious, and perfect for families on the go. There were plenty of options like pizza, chips, wraps, and Caesar salads—something for everyone.

In the evenings, we dined in the main buffet restaurant. Each night had a different theme, which kept things interesting, and there was even a special kids’ buffet section where children could help themselves—my little boy loved that independence.

We did try to get into the à la carte restaurants, but they were fully booked—so my tip is to download the hotel app and try to book them before you arrive. They looked fantastic and super popular!

Final Thoughts

In short—I’d 100% recommend Atlantica Aegean Blue to any family thinking about a holiday in Rhodes. It was clean, modern, packed with activities, and the staff were wonderful. We felt completely relaxed the whole time, and there was so much for both adults and kids to enjoy.

f you’re anything like me, finding the perfect family break over May half-term can feel like a mission. We wanted sunshine, great food, activities for our 7-year-old, and a little bit of luxury for us too – and I’m so glad to say Grecotel LuxMe Costa Botanica in Corfu delivered all of that and more.

We travelled out on 23rd May 2025, just in time for the Spring Bank Holiday, and spent a full week soaking up the sunshine, incredible food and the most beautiful surroundings.

��‍��‍�� Space, Comfort & Location

We stayed in a Two-Bedroom Family Room with Garden View and Balcony, and honestly – the space was a dream. As a family of three, we had plenty of room to relax, and the central location meant everything was just a short walk away. Pools, restaurants, waterslides – all right on our doorstep, which made life so easy with a child in tow!

�� Little Touches That Made a Big Impression

We arrived quite late in the evening, and one of the first things we were greeted with was a glass of freshly made lemonade – such a thoughtful (and delicious) welcome.

I was honestly surprised by how beautiful the resort grounds are. Everything was in full bloom, and there are even homegrown fruits growing throughout the gardens. The attention to detail is everywhere – you can tell how much care has gone into this resort.

�� Food Glorious Food

We had hoped to try out the à la carte restaurants but couldn’t get booked in. At first, I’ll admit, I was a bit disappointed—but after just one meal at the main buffet, that completely disappeared. The food was incredible – fresh, varied, and beautifully presented.

There was even a daily gyros station, and if you fancied a wander, there’s a beach bar with an ice cream parlour serving Carte D'Or down by the sea. Safe to say our son was in heaven!

�� Fun for Everyone – Kids & Adults Alike

What makes Costa Botanica extra special is how well it caters to both kids and adults. There’s a waterpark onsite, a mini-zoo, children’s cooking classes, evening entertainment, yoga sessions, and watersports. Our little boy loved every second.

There was also waiter service by the beachside pool, which meant we could truly relax while keeping an eye on him having the time of his life.

��️ Local Charm Just Around the Corner

Another bonus? The resort is only a short stroll into Acharavi – a lovely little town with local shops, bars and restaurants. It was perfect for when we fancied a change of scenery without having to venture far.

�� Final Thoughts

Would we go back? In a heartbeat.
Grecotel LuxMe Costa Botanica is ideal if you’re a family who likes a bit of everything – from beach days and waterslides to yoga and strolls into town. The setting is beautiful, the service is fantastic, and it ticks all the boxes for a fun, easy, sunshine-filled family escape.
